Sample Text [The Koran, with marginal notes in Arabic and Persian, the former on the pauses to be observed in reciting from it, chiefly extracted from a work by Muḥammad ibn Ṭayfūr al-Sajāwandī ; the latter on the orthography of the text. With a number of introductory tracts prefixed, namely : (1) a prefatory note containing passages from the Koran with paraphrases in Persian, on the benefits to be acquired by its study ; (2) an explanation in Arabic of the abreviations used to indicate the various kinds of pause to be observed in reciting from the Koran, being the introductory portion of a treatise founded upon al-Sajāwandīʾs work on that subject ; (3) a tract in Persian, on the correct pronunciation of the Arabic letters ; (4) another explanation, in Persian, of the abbreviations used to indicate the pauses in reciting ; (5) notices in Persian, of the seven principal "Readers" of the Koran and their "Readings" ; (6) rules for the correct transcription of the text, in Persian ; (7) the Arabic alphabet, with a note in Arabic attached to each letter on its proper pronunciation. Edited by Muḥammad Muʿaẓẓam, with occasional notes in Hindustani on the special virtues of particular Surahs and verses.].
