| Notes | Arabic title by a late owner, with an English translation. On the fly-leaf is the name J. B. Braithwaite. The writing is a bold Egyptian Naskhi. Profusely rubricated with red rulings and all in one hand. Lettered on the back: Arabic MS. given to Miss Gurney by Mrs. Leider. Folios 1-95: The Story of the Indian King Gala'ad and the philosopher Shimas. The work contains fifty-five crude illustrations occupying on the average about half a page. The manuscript was written by a Christian Copt in 1129/1717. Folios 96-106: The story of a young man and a king's daughter. There are eight coarse illustrations. At the end of the colophon (undated) there are three baits of poetry under which there is an inscription in the same hand. |
