Sample Text
Depiction of the Egyptian Chediwen (Viceroy) Abbas Hilmi II (Abbas Helmi), the last Chediwen of Egypt and Sudan (1874-1944; reigned 1892-1914). In a black-gray European-style uniform decorated with gold braids and gold shoulder pieces (epaulettes) and wearing black riding boots with spurs, he rides a white stallion with a shiny gold bridle. A black and white horse tail is attached to the bridle as an ornament. On his head the viceroy wears a fez (ṭarbūš) with a black tassel. On his chest he wears two breast stars and three medals, which are partially covered by the three armpit cords. The saddle is covered with a reddish-brown leather. Only the lower part of the scabbard of the Egyptian ruler's sword/saber can be seen. On the left behind the chediwen are six cavalrymen in sand-colored uniforms and also with a fez as headgear. They present their sabers. While yellow tones dominate the lower half of the picture sheet, the background in the upper half is grey-blue. Above the viceroy's head is the foliage-wreathed coat of arms of the viceroyal dynasty. - Other names for this Chediwen: Abbās Ḥilmī Bāšā, Abbâs Hilmî Paşa, Abbas Helmy Pasha, Abbas Helmi Pasha.
