"First edition ... extracted from Part I of a Persian history of the reign of Aurengzebe, ruler of the Mogul Empire from 1658 to 1707, written by Muhammad Saqi in 1710 ... The translator was the son of a former governor of Bengal ... Printing began in Calcutta in 1777, and for several years was confined to almanacs and newspapers. The East India Company established its press in that city in 1781; Daniel Stuart began work there in 1784 and was employed for about a year and a half, during which time he also produced a number of titles under his own imprint, of which the present work is an example"--Bookseller's description.English translation followed by 43 pages of the Persian text.With a Persian half-title (the final leaf).The Persian original is an abridgment of Muḥammad Kāz̤im's 'Alamgı̄rnāmah.With bookseller's description (1 page), removed to Bibliographical File.Bound in contemporary quarter calf and grey sugar paper-covered boards, all edges untrimmed.
