Notes	What we know about Zuhair Hawari - the Lebanese novelist - is that he is a writer who tells the truth and moves on. His works carry the concerns of the nation, and are concerned with people’s pain and wounds. He is the best person at the forefront of vivid prose, with images that are patient with pain and challenge, and with unforgettable characters that depict the true reality, with a critical sense, that keeps the memories imprinted on the bodies of the victims alive and motivated until their last breath. And “Sleeping Until Wakeful” is a dramatic reading that reflects our reality as it is in terms of its division and intersection between the theme of life and the theme of death. The events of the novel take place during the civil war in Lebanon, through which the narrator reveals a reality that disturbed him, so he wrote about it, revealing its hidden secrets and colors. As for the characters in the novel, they are real, but they are disguised as corpses, buried in death. Most of them have tasted the wars and conflicts that have passed and are still ongoing among the people of one nation, tearing apart their lives and dreams. Hawari says: “...One day I made a promise to talk about the faces I knew that sank like water in sand, and about this homeland, a cemetery that has been constantly expanding for many decades. About those people who left or were deported against their will. Years passed without me being able to, and I was not able to do so, without forgetting or abandoning this promise. I talk about those whose death I knew or witnessed.
