Notes
The novel monitors the political, social, and intellectual atmosphere of Cairo immediately before the revolution of January 25, 2011, by monitoring the frustrated dreams of young people and their repressed desires for love...all of this in a climate in which reality and imagination combine with a unique and picturesque spontaneity. In the end, we see the hero of the novel squeezed among millions in the middle of Tahrir Square during the outbreak of the revolution, crying over his wounded hoopoe, or mourning for his beloved Nashwa, or surrendering to orders. His colleague Hanan, who loved him deeply and saved him from being killed.
