Notes “The Land of Sudan, the Sweet and the Bitter,” the novel by the Sudanese writer Amir Taj Al-Sir (from the Arab House of Sciences), is a prose story whose author knew how to manage his tools, so the work became compatible with its reader. The events of the novel revolve around an adventure undertaken by a young British man in the 1880s. Its events explain the conditions of the country at that time and the hero’s impressions after his contact with the conditions of Sudan. The novel also addresses the behavior of the colonizers, the slave trade, and the changing societies. Real and imagined events are scattered throughout the text.
