Notes	The book “The Hundred Years’ War on Palestine: The Story of Settler Colonialism and Resistance 1917-2017,” by Palestinian-American historian Rashid Khalidi, represents an opportunity to question and review the complex reality that the Palestinian issue has turned into in its various dimensions and aspects after a century of war on the Palestinians that ended with Donald Trump recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, saying: “We took Jerusalem off the negotiating table, and we should not talk about it anymore.” In his book, Rashid Al-Khalidi focuses on six turning points in the conflict over Palestine. These six events begin with the Balfour Declaration in 1917, which determined the fate of Palestine, to Israel’s siege of Gaza and its repeated wars against the people of Gaza in the first decade of the twenty-first century. These stages shed light on the colonial nature of the Hundred Year War on Palestine, and on the indispensable role of external powers in waging this war. The author tells "the story of the original Hundred Years' War" partly through the experiences of Palestinians who lived through that war, many of whom belong to his family, and who were present during some of the stages mentioned. He added his own memories of events he personally witnessed, as well as “documentary” materials he owned, some families, and various eyewitnesses. His goal in all of this narration was to clarify his vision in which he said: This conflict must be seen completely differently from most of the prevailing narratives (...) in which the story of Palestine was told in most of what was written about it. The author presented his book with a definition in which he says: “This book is not a “weeping imagining” of the past hundred years of the history of Palestine, quoting from the wonderful criticism written by the great historian Salo Baron about the spirit of Jewish historical writings in the nineteenth century. The Palestinians were accused by those sympathetic to those who oppressed them of being immersed in the feeling of being victims. In fact, the Palestinians faced They faced difficult and sometimes impossible conditions, like all the indigenous people who faced colonial wars. They were also subjected to repeated defeats, and were often dispersed and did not have good leadership. All of this does not mean that the Palestinians did not succeed at times in overcoming these difficulties, or that they were not able to make better decisions at other times. However, we cannot ignore the international and imperial forces that... alliances against them, the extent of which is often overlooked and despite which they were able to demonstrate flexibility and steadfastness worthy of praise. My hope is that this book will clarify this steadfastness and flexibility and help recover some of what has been set aside and ignored in history by those who control all of historical Palestine and the narrative that surrounds it - including bibliographic references.
