Notes
The manuscript is an autograph draft (miswadda) of the biographical dictionary dedicated to the Sūsī scholars by Abū ‘Abdallāh Muḥammad ibn Aḥmad al-Huḍīgī at-Taraswāṭī al-Manūzī al-Lakūsī (d. 1189/1775-6). The free folios vary in color and size. They are listed alphabetically in order of first name. This manuscript was used for the printed edition, published in two volumes (Casablanca 1357/1938), with numerous errors and omissions. Some information on the author and his work is provided by Justinard in his notes on the history of Souss in the 16th century (Paris, 1993, p. 88-91): “This manāqib was collected by Abouzid Abderraḥman el Jechtimiˮ (Abū Zayd ‘Abdarraḥmān al-Jashtīmī at-Timlī, who died in 1269/1852-3). He is buried in Talat n'Yisi. The introduction of al-Jashtīmī is not found in this manuscript and in the printed edition. The manāqib itself begins with the life of Sīdī Aḥmad ibn Mūsā, and contains the tarājim of 734 saints of Souss. 70 and Sūs al-ʻālima, p. 193.
