In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to God and peace be upon His chosen servants. The questioner said, “What is the reality of custom?” The answer is, “And God is the guide,” that custom is essentially what is apparent and what is elevated, and from it is the Almighty’s saying: (And over the customs are men) and the opposite of denial, and from it is (Take pardon and enjoin what is right), meaning what minds know, and a third to it such as thanking a benefactor, good morals, connecting relatives, atmosphere, and the like, and in the terminology, limiting what the thing was created for...
