Notes
Short shot of a manuscript, content: 'The Great Chess Book' - a work about the game of chess with poems, practical examples and three miniatures (fol. 37b, 49b, 76), work written in 1503 under Sultan Bâyezîd II (Bâyezîd İbn-i Mehmed), whose praise is expressed in the preface, Firdevsî, the author, is mentioned in several places of the 360-volume 'Süleymânname' (fol. 9b 1.11), defect: defective at the end; but not much is missing, writing: very beautiful, old, vocalized copy, the headings in gold or red, binding: contemporary binding, features: three miniatures. At the beginning a vignette. According to M. Atâ Çatıkkaş, who used this manuscript (Şatranç-name-i kebîr, Ankara 2015), this manuscript is very reliable. However, some sheets are missing. Selected individual images are also available under the signature Cod.sim. 6, old signature: Quatremère 25, BSB provenance: Étienne Quatremère (1782-1857) [previously in the J. J. Marcel library]
