Notes Praise be to God, the praise of those who are thankful, and his prayers be upon our Master Muhammad and his good and pure family. And after: This is a treatise on working with the quadrant drawn with arches, which I have provided for the beginner as a path to access, including an introduction and ten chapters. The introduction is in the naming of his drawings. The center is the najsh in which is the thread of the arc of height that surrounds the quadrant. The quadrants are an equal section on which it is written that they should be set up flat from right to left and reversed from left to right. The center line of the sky is the straight line passing through the center and the end of the arc of elevation. The East and West line is the straight line that connects from the center to the first arc of elevation. The third orbits have their center equal to the center of the quarter. The largest is the Tropic of Capricorn, the smallest is the Tropic of Cancer, and the middle is the Tropic of Aries and Libra. Arches are segments of arc that are squeezed out from each other from the greatest orbit and its end is as much as the excess between the complete width and the greatest inclination, or the excess between the complete greatest inclination.... Chapter Ten on knowing how to work with the planet. He made the string on the middle line of the sky, then moved it away from the orbit of the gravitation according to the distance of the planet in its direction. Then he knew about the sky. Whatever arcades he met, it was the height of that planet. Then he moved the string until the sky fell on the horizon. He would get its remainder and half of its arc and the breadth of its rising. If the sky did not connect to the sky. By the horizon, the planet appears visible if its distance is north, and it shows concealment if its distance is south. If you place the mirror on the arches of its elevation, its circle is obtained, and if you cast half its arc from its rising, its rising rise remains, and if you increase it over it, its setting rise is obtained. If the planet is in the middle, it separates the sunset rising from its rising, then the remainder is the past part of the night at its middle, and if you cast its rising from the rising rising, the remainder of the night occurs at its middle, even if its rising rising is cast. The remainder of the night comes from the rising of sunrise, and the same applies to the rising and setting risings.
