Praise be to God, praise befitting His Majesty, and prayers and peace be upon the best of His creation, Muhammad, his family, and his companions. And after: This is a brief message in which I mention the names of the anchors drawn on the instrument called the Northern Astrolabe with Plates, and some of its works. It includes an introduction, fifteen chapters, and a conclusion. The introduction is in naming the drawings. The relationship is the thread by which the astrolabe is attached. The loop is the loop in which the thread is tied. The loop is the one that contains the ring and is the rail for the chair. The chair is the part that protrudes from the perimeter of the room, and the eyebolt has a window in it. The room is the divided circle. A basket with the numbers of the circumference written on it, starting from the diameter passing through the middle of the relationship and ending with it on the other side.... We enter the height preserved from the arc also into the sinuses until we meet the stile, so we mark the place of intersection on the stile with a black mark or something else. Then we place the stile on the relationship line and go down from the mark to the arc with the sinus. What we found from the beginning of the arc is the past part of the day if the height is east, and if it is western, it is the remainder until sunset, with an increase of half the adjustment to it in the north and after dropping it in the south. This is also the case for all works. With knowledge of the workings of the horizontal quadrant of the sinusoid, and if the stile is not divided by the segments of the sinusoid, then it is necessary to work on the quadrant of the rays and orbits until what we have mentioned is achieved from it, and it will be like this picture looking outward from the height of time from the lines of the sinusoids until they intersect, so it comes out from the intersection to the sixtieth with the intersecting orbit of them, then descends from the outside from that place to the arc.
