Notes Praise be to God, who does not have a beginning, so that He is preceded, nor has an end, so He is limited, nor has a quality, so He is represented, nor has a quantity, so He is confined. The Most High is the height of honor and not the height of place, the Eternal and Eternal without renewal of time, the One, the Single, the Eternal, the Eternal, the Everlasting, the Ever-Eternal, the One who by His power created the revolving spheres, and made them subservient by His command, and willed that there should be four investigations of them, and that He should be one of their movements. And their mixing and the influence of the spheres on them, the species of animals, minerals, and plants, and He placed in them the benefits of animals, and the knowledge of that was specific to the type of man with what He honored him with in terms of reason, speech, and eloquence, if he was in need of adjusting his temperament to be of sound structure and good form, stable in his mind, sound in his thought, opening his heart in contemplating the creations of his Creator, and so that his limbs would be obedient to Him in the state of his acts of worship, such as bowing, prostration, standing, sitting, and prayer. I praise Him, Hamad, a servant who acknowledges his lordship and acknowledges his oneness. And I thank Him as I would thank the One upon whom He has bestowed His grace and mercy, as a favor from Him, the Almighty, without merit, but rather a generosity from Him, not by agreement, may He be glorified and sanctified be His names.... As for the items such as grasses, herbs, and flowers, which have a light origin like white and black hellebore, the new ones are better than the old ones. As for water, the air takes possession of it and spoils it, so one must guard against it [ ] by blocking the tops of its vessels, and when they become turbid or sour or lack of smell, they cease and do not remain. It has no benefit at all, and there is no trick to correcting it. And know, my son, that if I sit down to mention to you a cure, the salty and the bad, the book will become long and the discourse will become boring and the viewer will get bored and the mind will become weary. I will begin, if God extends my life, to compile a book of well-known individual medicines, and this amount is enough for you if you meditate on it, then carefully look into it and you will dispense with anything else.
