...Chapter 95 on multiplication, division, and extracting the root, which is the chapter that was previously mentioned, and know that it dispenses with all that is classified as sine, and for that reason most of the works have been shortened, for this chapter is from it that reaches all the works, for they are arranged according to multiplication, division, and the root, and these are known from this chapter without the expense of calculation, and I do not know that anyone has elaborated on that until our time, and this chapter is divided into four sections, multiplying a number by a number without division, multiplying a number by a number, and dividing it by another number. And dividing a number by a number and knowing the root. As for the first section, which is multiplying a number by a number, know that whoever comes out with this work comes out in the nominative form, that is, divided by sixty, which is what he needs most in the work. The method is to put the string on the sixties and place the tributary on the same as one of the multiplied parts of it. Then make the second multiplied a pocket and place the string on its bracket and enter from the tributary to the sixties and whatever is cut from its parts is the one that emerges from the multiplication in the nominative case. For example, I wanted to multiply fifteen by forty-five and put the string on The sixties and the mari are divided by forty-five....So assume that the sixtieth pocket has two or more parts, if you need to, then use it. For example, we wanted the root of four hundred. We took the tenth of it, which is forty. We added ten to it and half the amount, so it was twenty-five, so we put the string on the sixtieth and the maritime by twenty-five. Then we dropped the extra number, which is ten out of twenty-five, so fifteen remained, so we moved the string until the mari’s elbow was on the spread pocket coming down from fifteen of the sixties, and you have it. Here are two aspects. If you wish, you can enter from the mari in the reversed direction to the line of the East and West and learn that what is between the mark and the pole of the sixtieth parts is the root, and if you wish, move the string to the exact height at which it is and enter from the mari to the sixtieth, you will find the root, which is twenty parts.
