Sample Text This pen-and-ink and watercolor manuscript map shows an incomplete outline of the Siege of Yorktown that took place in September-October 1781. York (better known as Yorktown after the American Revolutionary War) was founded in 1691 and became an important tobacco export port. The map shows the British defences, front barricades and roads leading into the town. The map is drawn so that north appears toward the top left. The terrain is shown using shading lines, and the drawing scale is approximately 1:5,000. The map has some imperfections, including cut sections at the top and right edges, and also contains creases and several holes along or near the folds. The Battle of Yorktown was the last major land battle of the American Revolutionary War.
