| Sample Text | This manuscript deals with the issue of calculating Easter Sunday according to the Coptic calendar, as determining this date every year governs a large aspect of the ritual and devotional life of the Coptic Orthodox Church. The Coptic calendar begins in 284 AD, a year called Ano Martirum (AM), or the Year of the Martyrs. The first sheet contains a table listing the four seasons and their corresponding Coptic months and zodiac signs. The following pages, some of which are torn or extensively stained, provide instructions for calculating the moon's movements and reconciling the Coptic and Arabic (Islamic) calendars. |
