Notes After the end of the Portuguese campaign on the entrances to the Arabian Gulf, the population of the Trucial Coast strengthened, and the migration of Arab tribes from the interior to the coast began, and they resumed their ancient activity of navigation and pearl diving. With the expansion of the trade of these tribes, a new era of overseas colonialism had begun, and Britain, with its successive aggressive campaigns in the Gulf, put an end to the Qawasim fleet, which inaugurated a long and harsh era. This book examines the treaties that The sheikhs of the “Trucial Coast” were shackled and the reasons leading to the imposition of British hegemony caused the delay in the birth of the United Arab Emirates. A detailed and documented review confirms that had it not been for British intervention, things would have proceeded in their natural course and Emirati unity would have emerged at an early stage in the region’s history. It then ends by presenting the efforts made by Sheikh Zayed Al Nahyan and the birth of the United Arab Emirates.
