Notes	Since its establishment, the Iraqi state had to struggle in the face of the Kurdish issue, which was affecting all aspects of its life, economic, social and political, in addition to its international relations. As for the Iraqi Kurds, for their part, they have formed a national movement whose achievements are far ahead of those of other Kurdish societies. +++ The author explores the mechanisms of relations between the Iraqi Kurds and the Iraqi state from the beginning of Baath rule to the present. In her work, she draws on a wealth of material to carefully trace the emergence of Kurdish national identity in Iraq. It deals in detail with the socio-economic, political and ideological transformations that the Iraqi Kurdish community has undergone during nearly five decades. It focuses on the twin processes: nation formation and state building. It also reviews the characteristics of the Kurdish movement in Iraq that distinguish it from Kurdish communities in other parts of the region.+++This narration of the complex transformations in the fate of the Kurds does not stop only at revealing the truth about the political complexities in Iraq today, but also shows the influence of the Kurds on the geostrategic map of the entire Middle East region.
