Notes	This book aims to explore the truth of Sharia law and explain its development in accordance with historical and social circumstances. The authors argue that Sharia law and the positive law derived from it, known as jurisprudence, never constituted a pure legal system nor even a fixed set of beliefs. It is supported by ethical principles and is open to change in different circumstances and contexts. The book also provides a critique of the state of Sharia law today, and examines its relationship to specific issues of great importance in the contemporary world such as human rights, penal sanctions, including apostasy, blasphemy and adultery, commercial dealings, and biomedical ethics.
