Notes	With the escalation of sectarian tendencies, extremism in religion, and violence in its name, this book comes to present a new approach to studying the volatile social and political scene in the Middle East. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Arab world has witnessed radical transformations in which it appears as a world of children cut off from their parents, the most important of which is the transmission and reception of puritanical patterns of understanding and practicing religion, and dealing with them as total alternatives to familiar social, cultural, and political practices. The book proposes new analytical frameworks for understanding the violation of religion. The state and the tension of power in the Arab world, and its effects on shaping the religious field. It also provides new contributions on issues ranging from: military organizations, transregional war economies, the crystallization of sectarian-based authorities, and the restructuring of tribal networks.
