Notes Since the 1960s, Saudi Arabia has maintained a strategic alliance with the United States, and this alliance has always taken the form of a delicate diplomatic balancing act. +++ The Saudi-American relationship remained stable, despite the change of kings and presidents, due to the intersection of interests and the dependence of each of the two countries on the other in many aspects. The United States relies on the Kingdom’s oil and its influence in its surroundings, while Saudi Arabia resorts to America to establish its security and legitimacy as a major player in the region. +++ Nayef bin Hathlin delves into the complex relationship between the two countries. It presents its basic historical junctures, from the Egyptian intervention in Yemen, to the 1967 and 1973 wars between the Arabs and Israel, all the way to the Iraqi-Iranian war, and the Gulf Wars that were fought under American leadership. He believes that what brings the two countries together is necessary for stability in the Middle East. +++ This book provides an objective and insightful assessment of geopolitical ties that have persisted for more than forty-five years.
