Born in 1884 in an aristocratic environment, Ivan Axionov was one of the many officers of the Tsarist army who crossed over to the side of the revolution. Picasso and surroundings, written in 1914, is his first publication. A man of great culture, he is close to Mayakovsky, futurist groups and then the “Negativists” (Dadaists). He translates and comments on the works of Shakespeare, Marlowe, Ben Johnson, Webster. In 1933, he devoted a monograph to Eisenstein. Ill, Axionov died in 1935.
