We read, on the flyleaf of the manuscript, the title كتاب مسايل شرعيّه, which presents no guarantee of authenticity, but which corresponds to the writing of the work, which is designed in the form of a collection of legal solutions to questions مسئله, according to the sentences of the muftis, these official decisions not being classified in the methodical way, which, according to custom, discriminates the muʿâmalât from the ʿibâdât. This treatise is dedicated to a Sultan Mourad, who is probably Mourad III; it is divided into eighteen chapters dealing with: 1° principles relating to everything concerning water; 2° legal purification through ablutions, considered as a preface to prayer; 3° canonical prayer; 4° funerals; 5° legal alms; 6° fasting; 7° acts which one must guard against; 8° hunting and the manner of making sacrifices; 9° questions relating to mosques; 10° the manner in which one should eat and drink; 11° what the days and months are, and what to do according to the dates; 12° injunctions and defenses of the Law which discriminate against Muslims; 13° of the conversation; 14° the rights and duties imposed by living in someone's neighborhood; 15° the way in which one should conduct oneself in society; 16° laws governing marriage; 17° visits that must be made to the sick; 18° various questions which do not fall precisely into any of these sections, following the custom of treatises of jurisprudence; each of these eighteen sections is divided into paragraphs; the volume ends with the story of Moses. This manuscript was taken in Cairo, during the Egyptian expedition; a note in Langlès' handwriting states that it was brought back from Egypt by General Menou, who deposited it in the Library on Ventôse 18 of the year XI.
