Turkish writings, from the first half of the 17th century, the Kitab-i ousoul being dated to the month of Rabiʿ first of the year 1046 AH (August 1636). Ousouli, born in Yeniǧe du Vardar, died in 945 AH (1538); he was the disciple of the Sufi sheikh Ibrahim Goulsheni, and composed mystical poems. The title of the divan is only given on the back of the seventh leaf, but the poems which precede it, on leaves 1-3, are also signed with the name Ousouli; There we find terkib-bend, quatrains, commenting on and paraphrasing traditions, kaside, mesnevis, including one (folio 18 recto) which is entitled Mounaǧat “invocations”, in the London manuscript. The text from the Usouli divan is followed (folio 44 verso) by a mystical mesnevi, entitled كتاب اصول يحيى درباب عشق, by Yahya Efendi, son of Zakaria Efendi (m. Zilkaʿda 1053 AH = January-February 1644), who was mufti, and enjoyed the favor of Sultan Mourad IV. The Kitab-i ousoul كتاب اصول deals, in imitation of the Persian poets, with divine love, and with the qualities that the Lover must bring together to obtain the Beloved, all interspersed with anecdotes. The blank pages of this manuscript have been covered with extracts of all kinds, in prose and verse, including letter formulas, chronograms, a prayer in Arabic for the month of Safar (folio 33 verso)..
