Text with vocalization and orthoepic signs. Golden rosettes enhanced with red dots separate the verses. Golden circles surrounded by a blue border with the word ẖams or the word ʿ ašr in golden “Kufic” characters on a red background indicate the groups of five and ten verses; in the first case, this decoration is surmounted by a triangular point 3 (3. There is a slight change in the decorations separating verses and groups after f° 74 r°.). At the head of each surah appear its title and the number of its verses in white “Kufic” characters on a gold and red or blue background; this indication appears in a banner, generally inside cartridges of various shapes, accompanied by a lanceolate vignette in the first part of the manuscript (up to f° 75 r°, compare with f° 70 v°). On the initial (ff° 288 v° and 289 r°) and final (ff° 2 v° and 3 r°) double pages 4 (4. The foliotation of the ms. is reversed - that is to say it starts from the end.), the text is arranged inside a frame delimited on the three exterior sides of each page by a band where an arabesque unfolds on a blue background. A golden band defines two bands on either side of a rectangle reserved for the text flanked by two vertical golden braids with short elements. In each banner there is a cartouche between two semi-circles where the title and the number of verses are written in golden “Kufic” characters on a blue background animated by a spiral scroll. The remainder of the text is inscribed in a linear gold and blue frame. Divisions in ğuz ʾ are indicated in red ink; those of the quarters were reported later. Oriental paper, often with three grouped bridges. 292 fol. 354 × 254mm. 13 lines per page (except in ff° 288 v°-289 r° and 2 v° and 3 r°: 5 l.). Writing surface: 225 × 164 mm. Black ink. Quinions. Oriental binding of which only the covers have survived and have been reassembled in the West. Central plate and cold-stamped pendants on both covers (indistinguishable bouquet motif). Framing made of three series of triple cold-stamped fillets; this decoration truncates the corners of the field.. Egypt. Waqf act erased (f° 290 v°). Comes from the Smith-Lesouëf collection.
