Émile Desplanque is a well-known Lille personality. Isabelle Westeel is his biographer in an article devoted to Lille librarians “Son of Alexandre Desplanque, archivist of the North from 1863 to 1871, known for his historical work, Émile Desplanque obtained the diploma of archivist-palaeographer on January 23, 1889 with his thesis on the Transport of Flanders, study on the first meeting of French Flanders with France (1297-1369). After several years spent at the Archives of the Eastern Pyrenees, he was appointed librarian in Lille on April 1, 1897. He was also municipal archivist by municipal decree of January 27, 1911. He was the author of the notice “Public Library” in Lille in 1909. Suffering from 1911, he was replaced by Mr. Mahieu. Ill and evacuated from Lille in 1914, he died in December 1915 in Paris. » His career in Lille was largely dedicated to reporting manuscripts. In fact, Desplanque continued the work undertaken by Rigaux by writing the notices of the non-inventoried manuscripts. This work appeared in 1903 in the form of volume 41 of the General catalog of manuscripts of public libraries in France. In total, Desplanque wrote the notices for 241 works: the works from the general collection remaining or acquired since the publication of volume 26 of the CGM as well as all the manuscripts from the Debray legacy which had never before been reported. The cataloging is done according to the method implemented by its predecessor, which creates a coherent whole between the 2 volumes of the CGM. Unbound
