At the head of each surah appear its title and the number of its verses in white characters on the golden background of a cartouche placed in a banner. On the initial double page (ff° 1 v° and 2 r°), the beginning of the text is arranged inside “clouds” on a golden background in the center of a frame composed, on the three exterior sides of each page, by a wide border with scalloped contours punctuated by compartments alternating in gold and matte gold; a floral arabesque unfolds in this band. The central part of the decoration is defined by a golden braid with short elements and is composed of a rectangle where the text appears, framed by two vertical golden braids, and two horizontal bands which each contain a cartouche where the title and number of verses of S. I and II have been carried in white characters on a gold background. The rest of the text is written inside a linear red and gold frame. Various decorations (ovals, medallions, stars) indicate the divisions in ḥizb; others, of the same type but augmented by a blue vertical axis, indicate the ğuz ʾ which correspond to the dozens of pages (cf. ff° 12 r°, 22 r°, 32 r°, etc...). The marginal decorations indicating the sağda also include the blue vertical decoration. Oriental paper. 311 fol. 149 × 96mm. 15 lines per page (except in ff° 1 v° and 2 r°: 7 l.). Ruled with mis-ṭara. Writing surface: 90 × 52 mm. Advertisements. Quinions. Ottoman flap binding. Central plate (asymmetrical bouquet with broken stem, cf. OAi, fig. 5), cold-stamped pendants and spandrels; the field was golden. Golden threads highlight these decorations. The frame is made up of a strip of chained hatched S's, stamped then gilded, caught between two double gilded fillets. The flap is decorated with stylized golden palm leaves separated from each other by groups of six stamped and then gilded dots. The covering has the same border as the boards, but the spandrels and the axial finial are different. The backplates are lined with red leather decorated with golden motifs (cf. ms. Bibliothèque Nationale Smith-Lesouëf 206, notice 518, and D. James (David), Qur'ans and bindings from the Chester Beatty Library, A facsimile exhibition, London, 1980, p. 134, pl. 111), except for the cover which only has fillets. The case is decorated with a golden latticework; in the center of each diamond three points were painted in gold.
