See the typewritten notices of Georges Vajda for the Arabic manuscripts 4200 to 4599. The 1st section, containing five chapters, contains terms relating to Muslim law; the 2nd, devoted to the names of animals, contains twenty-seven chapters; the 3rd gives the names of celestial objects and contains five chapters; the 4th and last, devoted to terrestrial objects, contains six chapters. Beginning: الحمد لله الذى [لا] يتم امرٌ دون حمده. This manuscript is a copy of a copy which bore the date 497 (1103-1104 AD). Hadji Khalfa, without having seen the work, attributes it to Aḥmad ibn Moḥammad al-Maïdânî. The author says in his preface that he dedicated his work to a very high-ranking person in the civil administration (العميد الاعز ثقة الملك شمس الكُتّاب), named Abou ʾl-Barakât ʿAlî ibn Maʿsoud ibn Ismaʿîl. The first leaf and the last were added after the fact.
