On f. 45v include Persian, Arabic and Turkish couplets (including one from Ẓātī, one from Adābī). Undated copies, probably all by the same hand with the exception of Nos. VII and IX, and datable to the last quarter of the 16th century. The copyist would be (cf. note in the margin of f. 48) Maḥmūd, mudarris in one of the [four] madrasas founded by Sultan Sulaymān [near the Süleymaniye in Istanbul], who chose these pieces for his use and (cf. f. 46-8) glossed them. Ottoman Siyakat writing of 15 and 15 lines per page (nos. VII and IX in Nastaʿlīq); some titles are rubriced; advertisements. Written surface 80-110 × 150 mm approximately. Ms. of 155 × 210.. Commentary on the QAṢĪDA-i MAṢNʿŪA, without author's name. See No. XII. Incipit: صنعت توازی مصراعین اولدر که (...). In f. 1 are the title and the mention of a price (30). On the same leaf, an inscription in French, but in Arabic characters, indicates that the volume was acquired on May 11, 1613 for 45 aspres by “B.C.”. In the same place is a notice “Book of letters in Turkish”, in the handwriting of A. de Sancy, comp. ms. Persian 163, Persian 171, Persian 176 and Persian 226. On the upper backplate an old Arm ... loc ... Tab... mark has been scratched (comp. Persian 163, Persian 170, Persian 171, Persian 176, Persian 223, Persian 226 and Turkish S. 772) [see Pl. V, A]. This ms. was part of M. Thévenot’s library (n° 189). A Latin notice by Renaudot is glued to the upper backplate and a notice signed by Armain (n° 410) appears on the v° of f. cover.. Soft Ottoman binding in black morocco cold-stamped with a central plate in polylobed mandorla (38 × 50 mm; OAi 2 7 type decoration) and border fillets.
