This ms., whose beginning and end are missing, contains the first seven books of the work; the others were to be found in a second volume. Indeed, we read on the lower edge of the manuscript: الجزو الاول من مجسطى البوزجانى “First volume of the Almagest of Al-Boûzdjânî”. Each book (مقالة) is divided into sections (نوع) and chapters (فصل), and preceded by a table of contents. The author, Abou ʾl-Wafâ Moḥammad ibn Moḥammad al-Boûzdjânî (born in Boûzdjân, a small town in Khorâsân, located between Herat and Naïsâboûr), died in 387 AH (997 AD), at the age of fifty-nine. (See the Biographical Dictionary of Ibn Khallikân, vol. III, page 320 of the English translation.) M. Am. Sédillot treated the Almagest of Abou ʾl-Wafâ in his work entitled Materials to serve in the comparative history of mathematical sciences among the Greeks and the Orientals, p. 42 et seq.
