F. Déroche, Catalog of Arab manuscripts. 2nd part. Muslim manuscripts. Volume 1, 2: The Manuscripts of the Koran: from the Maghreb to Insulindia. Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, 1983, no. 561. Text with vocalization and orthoepic signs. Gold dots separate the verses. At the head of each surah appear its title and the number of its verses in blue on the golden background of a banner. On the initial double page, the text of S. I and the beginning of S. II are arranged inside a frame, in “clouds” on a gold background (ff° 1 v° and 2 r°). A similar decoration marks the half (ff° 117 v° and 118 r°) and the end of the text (ff° 254 v° and 255 r°). This is inscribed in a double linear frame; outside, a blue and gold frame embracing each double page delimits a band where are carried, in golden plant decorations, the indications of division, the advertisements, the number of the corresponding ğuz ʾ (in the upper corner of the back) and the title of the surah (in the upper corner of the front); a linear blue, red, gold and blue frame subdivided into bands by golden lines contains the text (one line per band). Oriental paper. 255 fol. 187 × 115mm. 17 lines per page (except in ff° 1 v°-2 r°, 117 v°-118 r° and 254 v°255 r°: 8, 9 then 5 lines). Writing surface: 125 × 63 mm. Black ink. Advertisements. Quaternions. Indian flap binding, red morocco; central plate (symmetrical plant motif along both axes), pendants, spandrels and border cold stamped on green paper inserts. Stamped threads. These patterns are repeated on the covering. The flap presents a cartouche with Koran LVI, 79 framed by pendants identical to those of the dishes, made using the same technique. The case which contained this volume offers on one side the same decoration in the same technique as the dishes; only the spandrels are missing. On the flap there is a cartouche with Koran LVI, 79 which differs from that of the binding.. India. Comes from the Smith-Lesouëf collection.
