After being a slave, ʿIsa Neǧati was attached to the service of the two sons of Sultan Bayezid II, Abd ʿAllah and Mahmoud; he died in the year 914 AH (1508), in Constantinople. Neǧati assembled the pieces of his divan at the urging of the kazi-ʿasker Mouayyidzade ʿAbd el-Rahman Čelebi (d. 922 AH = 1516); it begins with the kaside in praise of Bayezid II and his two sons; on the front of folio 3, chronograms are read which indicate the date of the poet's death..
