He was forty-three years old when he completed the Ğamiʿ el-tevarikh, which he dedicated in 982 AH (1574) to the vizier Mohammed Pasha, minister of Murad III (folio 4 recto). The sources of Mohammed el-Zaʿim were (folio 4 verso) the Nizam el-tevarikh, the chronicle of Tabari, the Book of Kings of Firdausi, the Kout el-arvah, the Soubhat el-akhbar, the Miraʾt el-zeman, the Shaǧra-i moulouk or salatin, the Behǧet el-tevarikh, the Ǧevamiʿ el-hikayat, the Kitab-i masalik, the Kitab-i mamalik, and the chronicles of the Ottoman sultans. The first chapter contains the history of the four pre-Islamic dynasties of Iran; the second, that of Mohammed and the Khalifate until the fall of the Abbasids; the third, the history of the Persian dynasties which were contemporaries of the Khalifat; the fourth, the history of the princes who reigned in Syria, in Egypt, in Africa, in Yemen, up to the Sultan of Cairo, Kansouh el-Ghauri, in four dynasties, the Mahdites of North Africa, the Ayyubites, the Borǧites and the Čerkesses, with the history of the contemporary kings of Persia; the fifth speaks of the sovereigns of Persia and Asia Minor, from Činkkiz Khaghan until the reign of Shah Ismaʿil II, of the Sefevis dynasty, of the Mongols, Timurids and Osmanlis, qualified, according to tradition, as sultans of Roum..
