Notes
Charlotte Saison-Pouly. On the good use of research instruments for bmL manuscripts, Lille, 2022. bmL - 38598 Jacques Lemaire. Medieval bindings of manuscripts from the Municipal Library of Lille, Villeneuve d'Ascq, Université Charles-de-Gaulle - Lille 3, 2004. bmL - L8-4910 Jacques Lemaire. The dimensions of the manuscripts of the Municipal Library of Lille: concordances, Liège, ULG, 2007, 131 p. bmL - 189784 Marc Gil. Catalog of handwritten and printed devotional books, 12th-16th century: books of hours and prayers, psalters, breviaries, Municipal Library of Lille, University Charles-de-Gaulle-Lille 3, 2006. bmL - L8-5300. This inventory presents the manuscripts entered into the collection of the Lille library after 1904. Initially, the manuscripts received an inventory number then, in 1984, Geneviève Tournouer, director of the library, set up the rating system which is still in force today. A capital letter from A to E followed by a number in Arabic numerals are assigned to the manuscripts. The letter corresponds to the height of the spine of the binding: A for a height less than 200 mm. ; B from 200 to 300 mm. ; C from 300 to 400 mm. ; D from 400 to 500 mm. ; E of more than 500 mm. high. This part of the library's manuscript collection catches our attention with its heterogeneous character: all periods are represented (from the 13th to the 20th century), on various media (papers, parchments, bound books, notebooks and even scrolls) and concern various subjects (religious, literary, musical works, official, historical acts, etc.). What is also notable is its regional aspect: works concerning history (official acts, theater history, etc.), testimonies from Lille residents (diaries, school notebooks or recipes), works describing the city's festivals (Spruce Festivals, 1720 festivals for the birth of the Dauphin, etc.) and works by great names of Lille artists (Desrousseaux, Samain, Simons, Criel, etc.). Some manuscripts are also remarkable for their content since big names in bookbinding are found there: Gruel, Marius Michel, Maylander, etc. Printed stamp “Seminarium Duchownemu we Wroclawiu = Seminary of Wroclaw; [donation] from the priest Dr. Josef Marcinowski.” Ex-libris “manuscript Josef Marcinovski, Wilno. [1607]” according to a handwritten note in pencil. Sheepskin binding, cold stamping
