The title, which had been omitted by the copyist in the preface, was written in the margin, in the incomplete form مدخل نجوم, with a reference to the place where it was missing; it is found in its exact form in the subscription to the book; another person wrote on the front of the first leaf the title مدخل في احكام النجوم و الاصول. This summary, as the Madkhal is described in its preface, is divided into five chapters, dealing respectively with: 1° the sky, the fixed stars, their distances, their coordinates; 2° planets and their mansions, the zodiac, eclipses, the color and influence of the planets; 3° astrolabes, and other measuring instruments, and their use; 4° astrological influences of the fixed stars; 5° the modifications they bring to the conditions of human life.
