Attached to the manuscript is this autograph note, signed by Mr. Barbier de Meynard, director of the School of Modern Oriental Languages in Paris: “This Persian manuscript contains two works relating to medicine. “The first is a series of small poems, odes and epistles (Kaçidèh and Resaïl), dedicated to a prince whose name is not indicated, but who, according to the information given in the preface of the second work, can only be the Shah of Persia, Nasred-dîn-Châh, father of the currently reigning sovereign. The author of these didactic poems remains anonymous, but, in this same preface, he claims authorship of the two works and is named Yousouf (the copy bears Yousoufî), son of Mohammed, son of Yousouf, the doctor. “The second part deals with various illnesses, indicates the diagnosis and adds the recipe formula, in prose usually accompanied by a few verses. At first we read that this treaty was composed by the order of Abbas-Koulî-Khân, Persian ambassador. The copy was completed in Isfahan on 22 Djemazî 1, 1276 (December 17, 1859). The name of the copyist is “Mirza Mohammed Riza”. “The manuscript is carefully executed. The writing, in neshhi characters, although very fine, is regular and elegant, but in places the lines are extremely tight, which makes the reading of certain words difficult and sometimes uncertain.
