This work was undertaken by Shemʿi at the request of Mohammed Čelebi, who had been his student, and who was employed at the Imperial Palace; it was completed in the space of five months, on the twentieth day of the month of Rabiʿ first of the year 977 of the hegira (August 2, 1659), as Shemʿi mentioned at the end of his commentary on the preface of the Gulistan (folio 29 recto), prior to the publication of Soudi's commentary.
