The Arabic translation is without a preface, but at the top of the list of chapters which is at the beginning of the volume, we read the name of the author: “Chrysanthus Notara, archimandrite and successor to the apostolic see of Jerusalem”. It is a translation of the work of Chrysanthus Notaras, Εἰσαγωγὴ εἰς τὰ γεωγραφικὰ καὶ σφαιρικά, published in Paris, in 1716. Notaras, patriarch of Jerusalem, had studied mathematics in Paris, under Cassini. The Arabic translation is without a preface, but at the top of the list of chapters which is at the beginning of the volume, we read the name of the author: “Chrysanthus Notara, archimandrite and successor to the apostolic see of Jerusalem”.
