Irregularly, the rubricated word ʿ ašr was added in the margin to indicate groups of ten verses. At the head of each surah, in red ink, appear the title and number of verses. These indications are missing for S. I and II (ff° 2 v° and 3 r°) where they should have been written in characters of larger module. The words sağda, ğuz ʾ and ḥizb are placed in the margin, also in red. Oriental paper, with three bridges. 264 × 182mm. 342 fol. 13 lines per page (except in ff° 2 v° and 3 r°: 7 l.). Reglure to the misṭara. Writing surface: 171 × 115 mm. Black ink. Advertisements. Quinions. French binding of Italian inspiration, in brown morocco with an attached red morocco medallion, with the arms and number of Henri II and monogram of Diane de Poitiers (cf. Arabic mss. 395, 414 and 419, notices 298, 460 and 354).. Turkey?. An act of waqf recalls that the volume was constituted waqf on 1 ṣafar 886/1 April 1481 in the mosque of the citadel of Otranto (qalʿa Utūranda) 1 (1. Otranto had been taken on August 11, 1480 by Aḥmad Paša Gedik, cf. EI 2, t. I, p. 302, s. Aḥmad Pas̱ẖa Gedik; the Turkish garrison surrendered during the summer of 1481, cf. D. E. PITCHER, An historical geography of the ottoman empire, p. the witnesses are the janissary (yenī čerī) Eliās and Darwī? Ğamāl al-Dīn (ff° 1 v° and 2 r°). Mention waqf, above and below the text (ff° 2 v° and 3 r°). A Western hand has added, in the upper margin, a division into four books (only the first three are indicated) and chapters (surahs). Signatures of the notebooks (a letter for these, followed by a number for each leaf) starting from the last leaf, made during the binding during the reign of Henry II. Reading note from Buṭrus b. Diyāb al-Ḥalabī, from 1671 (f° 2 r°). Notice in Latin by d'Herbelot.
