Les manuscrits actuellement conservés à la Bibliothèque municipale de Lyon sont entrés dans ses collections de manières diverses. La Bibliothèque du Palais des Arts a reçu différents dons (Soulary, Giraud...) et legs (Lambert, Prunelle...). Les manuscrits de la collection Adamoli ont été donnés à la bibliothèque municipale par l'Académie des Sciences, Belles-Lettres et Arts de Lyon en 1960.
