At the beginning and end of the volume are a fairly large number of various notes, in Arabic and French, in the handwriting of Venture de Paradis.
Sample Text (The ms. bears Yoûsof ibn Marʿî, but this is a mistake on the part of the scribe.) According to Hadji Khalfa, this author died in 1033 A.H. (1623 A.D.). He completed his work in 1007 AH. It is a summary of the history of Egypt, from the Muslim conquest to the accession of the Ottoman sultan, ʿOthmân, son of Aḥmad. The work begins with these words: الحمد لله الباقى و كل من عليها فـان, and ends with a chapter on the duties of the sovereign.
