On the initial double page, the beginning of the text is arranged in a frame similar to that of Ar. 5844, notice 345 (ff° 1 v° and 2 r°); However, it is distinguished by the decoration of the bands, where the cartouche is flanked on either side by a circle and a semi-circle; the title and number of verses of S. XLVI as well as the order number of ğuz ʾ are written in white “Kufic” characters on a blue background enlivened by a golden scroll. The middle vignette is surrounded by petals. Oriental paper, with three grouped bridges. 42 fol. 374 × 262mm. 5 lines per page (except in ff° 1 v° and 2 r°: 3 l.). Reglure to the misṭara. Writing surface: 228 × 170 mm. Black ink. Egyptian binding from the end of the 14th century; the back and flap have been restored. On both boards, the field is entirely occupied by a geometric decoration whose center is a ten-pointed star, a quarter of which reappears at each corner. Three parallel threads - the one in the center is golden - describe, in each eighth of the field, geometric figures dominated by pentagons and triangles: the latter, decorated with a single golden dot in their center, contrast with the former, filled with cross-hatched braiding enhanced with golden dots. The decoration is organized around six pentagons which develop in an identical manner 1 (1. We will notice a certain similarity with M. Weisweiler, IB, Deckeltyp 6, fig. 8 and 9 a, whose two intersecting decagons are placed along a horizontal axis and not vertical as is the case for the binding of ms. Arabe 5846. On this one - as well as in the similar examples from Chicago, the lines which would draw the decagons are interrupted, which confuses the "reading". Likewise, the ten-pointed stars which constitute the center of the decagons do not appear as clearly because the inscribed pentagons are highlighted by a golden net.). The frame is made up of three bands separated from each other by a golden net: going from the inside to the outside, we successively encounter a twist enhanced with golden dots, a succession of small squares framed with hatched quarter circles, and a series of nets (cf. G. Bosch (Gulnar), Carswell (John) and Petherbridge (Guy), Islamic bindings and bookmaking, [exhibition, Oriental Institute, Chicago, 1981], Chicago, 1981, no. 17 and pl. M = ms. Chicago Oriental Institute, Chicago A 12151; also p. 108-109, no. 16 = ms. Chicago A 12153; Orientalisches Seminar). The covering has the same frame as the plates; the decoration is composed of an arabesque whose lines are indicated by a golden net; the interior of the plant shapes, left raw except for gold or silver threads which highlight them, stand out on the background where rosettes have been stamped. The counterplates are covered with embossed leather, currently inaccessible.. Egypt. Waqf act erased, identical to that of Ar. 5844, note 345.
