Nestalik, copied in gold frames, by Hafiz Ahmed, nicknamed ʿIzzet, who was one of the aghas of the Imperial Treasury, and dated 5 Zilhiǧǧa 1233 AH (October 1818). This pamphlet is dedicated to Sultan Ahmed, son of Sultan Mohammed; it is divided into forty-six very short chapters, at the end of which the scribe has left a blank space, to accommodate additions which have not been made; the time in which Seyyid Khalil lived is an enigma; he speaks, on folio 17 recto, of Sultan Ahmed III (1115-1143 AH = 1703-1730), who is the prince to whom this work is dedicated; but, on folio 40 verso, he speaks of Sultan Ahmed and Sultan Mahmoud, the latter being Mahmoud I (1143-1168 AH = 1730-1754); on folio 42 recto, by Moustafa III (1171-1187 AH = 1757-1773); on folio 41 verso, of Sultan ʿAbd el-Hamid (1187-1203 AH = 1773-1789); finally, on folio 39 recto, of Sultan Selim III (1203-1222 AH = 1789-1807); It is impossible that, writing after 1789, Seyyid Khalil dedicated the Tohfet el-hasib to Ahmed III, and the small extent of the work excludes the hypothesis of additions of such importance. Luxury manuscript, decorated with a sarloh with floral decoration.. Schefer.. Turkish binding, in golden brown leather.
