The translator, whose name remains to be discovered, dedicated his work to a prince who bore the title of Al-Malik al-Aschraf. A gap between the first two leaves of the ms. prevents us from recognizing the name of this character. It is perhaps Al-Malik al-Aschraf Mûsâ, son of Al-Malik al-ʿÂdil and nephew of Saladin. Beginning: الحمد لله مبدع الانواع و الاجنس و العقول. But the first sheet was added after the fact.
