Notes
Various documents (correspondence sent and received, manuscripts of works) of the priest and writer Félicité de La Mennais., Fragment of an unpublished Arabic grammar project composed by Lamennais and dated April 30, 1812. After the spiritual crisis which struck him in 1811, Lamennais isolated himself in the family home of La Chênaie, near Dinan, where he devoted himself to scholarship and to the study of languages. He learned, among other things, Hebrew and Arabic. The present manuscript, which includes 2 parts, is the only remaining witness to an Arabic grammar of its composition. Although Lamennais' name does not appear anywhere, these fragments are indisputably written in his hand, in comparison with other preserved autographs. We knew of its existence thanks to the old notice that Paul Louisy devoted to Lamennais in the Universal Biography of Hoefer.
