F. Déroche, Catalog of Arab manuscripts. 2nd part. Muslim manuscripts. Volume 1, 2: The Manuscripts of the Koran: from the Maghreb to Insulindia. Paris, Bibliothèque nationale, 1983, no. 507. Text with vocalization and orthoepic signs. Gold dots separate the verses. The rubricated word ʿ ašr, placed in the margin, indicates groups of ten verses. At the top of each surah are its title and the number of its verses in white characters on the golden background of a banner. On the initial double page, the text of S. I and the beginning of S. II are arranged in an oval placed inside a frame (ff° 1 v° and 2 r°), delimited by a thick golden line starting from the upper edge of the sheet. In the upper part there is a golden pediment with stylized decoration; then comes the space reserved for the text, in the shape of a polylobed mandorla caught between two vertical golden rectangles framed by a blue net. A band whose decoration evokes that of the pediment occupies the lower part. A stylized green plant motif occupies the margin. The remainder of the text is placed in a linear red and gold frame. The indications of sağda and those of ḥizb are written in the margin in red ink. A floral pattern indicates the ğuz ʾ which correspond to the dozens of pages (cf. ff° 12 r°, 22 r°, 32 r°, etc...). Western paper. 303 fol. 171 × 113mm. 15 lines per page (except in ff° 1 v° and 2 r°: 7 l.). Writing surface: 109 × 61 mm. Black ink. Advertisements. Quinions. Ottoman binding; central plaque in the shape of a cartridge and frame cold stamped on both covers, then silvered. The decoration of the frame is repeated on the covering.. Turkey Copy completed in 1198/1783-1784 by Ḫ alīl al-Ḥasīb, one of the students of Muḥammad al-Nurī (f° 303 r°).. Gift of Captain M. C. Ragland.
