Notes
The translation by Shams al-Din al-Ramli, who died in the year 1004 AH, was copied from the History of al-Muhibbi and from the History of al-Najm al-Ghazi and Tabaqat al-Sha’arani, and the compiler followed it with a poem by al-Suyuti in al-Mujaddidin. After all that, the compiler included the translation of Ahmad ibn Ahmad ibn Salamah al-Qaliuni al-Masri, who died in the year 1069 AH, a copy included in the collection (1b-6b). The text in the notebook was written in dark, watery, tangy brown ink in general. The copyist used red ink to write only two words: ((benefit)) in the first piece of Al-Masmarat and the word ((this)) in the beginning of Al-Ramli’s translation, on a rough, brown-colored, Frankish-made emblem in which parallel lines appear and the trademark watermark, which is three consecutive crescents.
