Its footnotes are heavy with comments, references, and explanations in different fonts. The text (Shama’il al-Tirmidhi) was written in red ink, and the explanation was written in black, tangy watery ink on a rough, white, European-made scribe in which the parallel lines and the trademark watermark appear.
