The beginning of the manuscript: On knowing the time of noon and its means, in the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and the method for leveling the face of the earth so that some of its sides are not high and others are low. As for pouring water and some measuring scales... Its pages are tabulated in red ink within a group. This is the fourth letter of it. It has no introduction, and neither the name of the author nor the name of the letter is explicitly mentioned. In its margins are circles, triangles, and geometric and astronomical shapes. The paragraph heads were written in red ink. It has traces of wetness at the end of the manuscript: The shadow that is at this time for the scale is at noon, so if this shadow is removed from this line, it is at noon, so that is the beginning and end of the time of noon, if the shadow of every double measure becomes only at noon.
